Talks Talks Talks

The future is always being charted. The festival focuses on building dialogue with leaders in traditional film and television—storytellers, directors, and creatives—because our goal is not merely to spotlight new technology, but to advance it with intention, craft, and purpose

Why We’re Not Just Another AI Film Fest

Storytelling

Storytelling anchors Token, guiding selection, themes, and purpose. It ensures technology serves narrative, not spectacle, creating emotional resonance. By centering human experience, storytelling becomes the festival’s north star, shaping meaningful connections between AI, creators, and audiences

Chicago

Token AIFF is rooted in the midwest while being International in scale. We aim to reflect this beautiful city of ours through the festival.

Bloomers Over Zoomers

The festival embraces a bloomer mentality: cautiously optimistic about AI’s role as a creative collaborator that can work alongside and integrate with traditional media. It celebrates innovation while thoughtfully engaging with the cultural and ethical concerns of a rapidly changing world.

What is Token?

Film festivals are a lot like superheroes; they all have an origin story. Ours lies with a group of artists and technologists who constantly couldn’t agree on the values of new technology in society. Some saw possibility—new forms of expression, new voices, new ways of seeing. Others saw risk—erosion of craft, authorship, and meaning.

What united us wasn’t consensus, but curiosity. We realized that the tension itself was generative. Instead of arguing in circles, we began asking a different question: what happens when you give this debate a stage?

Token AI Film Fest was born from that impulse—a space not to resolve the conversation, but to deepen it. A place where experimentation is encouraged, contradictions are visible, and storytelling remains the north star. Here, technology is neither hero nor villain, but a tool—one that reveals as much about us as it does about the future we’re building.

At the center of our work is the Token Institute, a nonprofit working to connect traditional artists with emerging AI technologies, and AI artists with the craft traditions that ground meaningful storytelling. From this exchange, we aim to shape not just new work, but a new creative language—one that is as human as it is technological, and as reflective as it is forward-looking.
